Reports and platform under your brand: what your customer sees in the end
For your customer, the report is the actual product. For lifestyle analyses, the kit, the report and, on request, the results platform carry your brand; Novogenia works in the background. Layout, structure and tone can be adapted to your brand, scope and depth to your audience. Novogenia reports are available in up to 18 languages, digitally via a secure portal and printed on request; you decide whether you see your customers’ reports. Medical analyses follow different rules: the medical report names the lab that performed the analysis and, for medical preventive analyses, the reporting body. In Germany, only the responsible physician communicates the result (Section 11 GenDG).
Your customer never sees a lab – they see a report
Your customer will never set foot in the lab. She sees no instrument, no sample, no measurement curve. What she holds in her hands is a report – and it carries your name. The report is your brand’s shop window: this is where an analysis turns into trust, or does not.
What is more, a single saliva sample can yield a whole library of analyses, each one a stand-alone report. At Novogenia, more than 30 genetic tests developed in-house stand behind them – from nutrition and weight to skin to sport and performance. So your report is not just a result. It is what your customers keep of your brand.
This article shows you what can run under your brand, what makes a good genetic report, how it reaches the customer, who may see it – and where the line runs for medical analyses.
What your brand can carry
With white label, you provide the brand, sales and the customer relationship. The lab provides the genetic analysis, the report and, on request, the platform. For lifestyle analyses, Novogenia does not appear to the outside. These elements can carry your brand:
| Element | Under your brand | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Saliva collection kit | logo, instructions and packaging in your brand’s design | classified as a medical device or a non-medical device – see Saliva kits |
| Report | layout, structure and tone to match your brand | scope and depth to match your audience |
| Results platform | on request, a digital platform with your brand’s look | clarify access rights and data protection before launch |
| Follow-up products | personalized supplements and cosmetics under your brand | from the same genetic data, manufactured by Novogenia |
One thing always comes with your own brand: whoever sells under their own name is also responsible for their own communication. Website, advertising and customer service speak in your voice – and must match what the report actually says.
What makes a good genetic report
A genetic report has to serve two masters: science and your customer. It has to be right – and it has to be understood. Five features help you check both:
- Understandable: clear, lay-friendly language instead of jargon. Novogenia reports deliberately describe genes simply as “functioning” or “impaired” – an intentional simplification that makes genetics tangible.
- Well organized: Each report bundles several genetic analyses around one area of daily life, color-coded to the customer’s own genotype.
- Evidence-based: A gene is only included in an analysis if at least three independent studies support the effect. Novogenia does not report insufficiently documented variants.
- Honest: The genetic traits are well documented scientifically. The recommendations drawn from them are logical conclusions – not scientifically proven. A good report says so.
- Actionable: concrete pointers for daily life, with personalized product recommendations on request.
How far you design the report is something we decide together in the project. Layout, structure and tone can be adapted to your brand, and analysis scope and report depth to your audience and your compliance requirements. How practitioners explain results in conversation is shown in Explaining a genetic report clearly.
Languages, portal, paper: how the report reaches the customer
Novogenia reports are available in up to 18 languages. Your customers receive them digitally via a secure portal and, on request, in print as well. For a brand selling in several countries, that is a powerful lever: one lab, one sample, one report – in your customer’s language.
If you design your own report for your brand, we agree in the project on which languages it covers. Plan this early, because language runs through the whole chain:
- instructions in the kit and information before the sample,
- report and accompanying texts in the portal or on your platform,
- customer service and answers to questions.
A report in perfect English helps little if the consent was in German and customer service speaks only one language.
The platform: results in your brand world
A portal delivers the report. A platform of your own can do more: on request, your customers receive their results through a digital platform with your brand’s look. That turns a one-time test result into a place your customers return to – for example when another report from the same sample is added or a follow-up product is due.
Before you decide on a platform, clarify these questions with your lab:
- Access: How do your customers log in, and how are new reports added?
- Roles: Who sees what – your customer, your consultants, your support team?
- Integration: Should the platform connect to your shop or your systems? Whether and how interfaces are set up is something you clarify in the project.
- Data protection: Who is responsible for which data, and where are they processed? More in Data protection for white-label genetic tests.
Who sees the report? You decide – with consent
At Novogenia, you decide whether or not you see your customers’ reports. Both options have their place. If you work as an advisor, access helps you prepare the conversation. If you sell a product without counseling, it is often clearer if only your customer sees the report.
What matters is this: your customer must know in advance who sees their report – and that must be in the consent. Genetic data belong to the specially protected categories of data.
Two examples show how this works in programs with several parties:
- Corporate health programs: For lifestyle analyses, the employer gets no insight into genetic results. Medical analyses are only available with an occupational physician – and only that person sees the results.
- Insurers: The member receives their results; the insurer receives only the invoice.
Medical analyses: different rules apply
Under their own brand, sales partners offer non-medical analyses – on lifestyle, nutrition, beauty and sport. Where national law requires it, Novogenia provides medical analyses only through physicians. Three differences apply to them:
- The medical report names those involved: For medical analyses, the medical report names the lab that performed the analysis and, for medical preventive analyses, the reporting body. Physicians handle the medical interpretation.
- The physician communicates the result: In Germany, the result of a genetic examination may only be communicated to the person concerned, and only by the responsible physician or the physician who provided the genetic counseling (Section 11(1) GenDG). The commissioned lab communicates the result only to the physician who commissioned it (Section 11(2)).
- Access only with express consent: The responsible physician may only disclose the result to others with the express consent of the person concerned, given in writing or electronically (Section 11(3)).
| Question | Lifestyle analysis | Medical analysis |
|---|---|---|
| Term used | report, result | medical report (findings) |
| Brand | kit, report and platform under your brand | the lab and the reporting body are named |
| Who communicates the result? | portal or platform, with counseling on request | in Germany, the responsible physician (Section 11 GenDG) |
| Access for you | your choice, with the customer’s consent | only through the physician and with express consent |
Switzerland goes further: there, even for tests outside the medical field, the written information names the lab that performs the test as well as companies and labs abroad that are involved in the test or process the genetic data (Art. 32 GUMG). And the report may only contain results that correspond to the purpose of the test (Art. 33 GUMG). Your brand is front and center – but your Swiss customers still learn which lab performs the test.
Which analyses belong in physicians’ hands, and where, is explained in Law: offering genetic tests in DE, AT and CH.
From report to next step: follow-up products under your brand
A good report does not end with its last sentence. The same genetic data can lead to a personal product – personalized supplements or cosmetics under your brand, with formula, packaging and shipping. For personalized supplements, around 50 genes, a questionnaire and, on request, blood values go into the formula; it comes in daily sachets, and one delivery lasts 90 days.
How manufacturing works is described in Manufacturing personalized supplements. The offer for brands is at White-label personalized supplements and cosmetics from genetic data.
